Description from the seller

Exceptional Art Deco Alexandrite Glass Vase “Nymphs” – Ingrid Line by Curt Schlevogt (Gablonz), Czechoslovakia, ca. 1930

An exceptional Art Deco vase from the celebrated Ingrid collection, produced by Curt Schlevogt in Gablonz (Jablonec nad Nisou), Czechoslovakia, around 1930.

Executed in beautiful alexandrite glass, the vase displays a delicate lavender tone and is richly decorated with three sculptural female nudes intertwined with grape clusters and flowing foliage. The satin finish combined with the faceted rim and octagonal foot creates remarkable light effects and gives the piece an unmistakable sculptural presence.

The Ingrid line is considered one of the most iconic achievements of Bohemian Art Deco glassmaking and remains highly sought after by collectors of Schlevogt, Hoffmann, Lalique and Czech decorative arts.

The vase remains in very attractive original condition.

Condition

* Very good overall vintage condition.
* One small chip on the underside/base (clearly shown in the final photographs).
* No visible cracks or restorations.
* Presents beautifully.

A striking collector’s piece combining sculpture and decorative glass from one of the most desirable Bohemian Art Deco workshops.

Some objects attract attention because they are rare. Others because they are beautiful. Pieces such as this manage to be both.

The Ingrid series represents the golden age of Bohemian Art Deco glass, where sculpture, architecture and decorative arts merged into a single object. The softly frosted alexandrite glass constantly changes character depending on the surrounding light, while the elegant female figures and flowing grape motifs embody the sensual organic lines of the Art Deco period.

Rather than simply serving as a vase, this is a sculptural work designed to interact with light. Whether displayed in daylight or illuminated from behind, the composition reveals new depth and subtle colour transitions.

Finding well-preserved examples has become increasingly difficult, particularly those retaining crisp sculptural modelling and an attractive satin finish. It is a decorative object that immediately elevates an interior while remaining an important example of early twentieth-century Czech artistic glass.
