結晶は特徴的な棱柱状の形態を示し、著しい縦筋を持つ。いくつかはマトリクスから完全に浮き出すが、他のものは部分的に露出しており、自然でバランスのとれた構成を作っている。斜めに配置されたより大きな結晶は、標本の焦点となるポイントを形成している。
正長石のマトリクスには、いくつかの空洞と長く延びた痕跡が見られ、トルマリン結晶の自然分離に由来すると推測され、標本の成長の複雑な歴史を証する要素である。いくつかの結晶は終端や端部が不完全な状態を示すが、自然の特性であり全体の美的バランスを損なわない。
