DESCRIPTION:
Ornithocheirus simus は、断片的な顎先のみに知られている。吻部には、近縁種と同様の特徴的な凸形の“くさび状”の crest があった。Ornithocheirus は関連種 Coloborhynchus および Tropeognathus に比べ、顎先が比較的細く、歯の羅列はロゼット状に大きく展開する種よりも控えめで、これらよりも発達した“くさび状”の crest を持つ。さらに Ornithocheirus を独自にし、親類とは異なる特徴として、歯はほぼ垂直方向で、外向きに傾斜する角度で配置されていなかった点が挙げられる。
過去には Ornithocheirus は存在した最大級の翼竜の一つと信じられており、翼幅はおおよそ40フィート（12.2 m）に達したとされてきた。
翼竜の爪の特徴としての鑑別的特徴:
-対称的な脈槽
-指の爪の底が平ら
