1863年にフランクフルト自由都市が鋳造した1 Kreuzerの銀貨は、プロイセン王国への併合の数年前にあたる。表面には翼を広げた頭部1個の帝冠鷲を配置した自由都市の伝統的紋章が描かれ、STADT FRANKFURTのレリーフが周囲を囲む、紋章風のデザインが重厚に施されている。裏面には額面値1 Kreuzerと発行年が刻まれ、下部で左右に結ばれた月桂樹とオークの枝からなる優雅な冠が額縁のように取り囲み、フランクフルトの割り符発行に特徴的な意匠となっている。 本品は優れた保存状態を保ち、浮き出しのディテールはよく整い、地の平坦部は均一で、鋳造時の元の輝きの多くを保つ。NGCによるMS61の格付けに相応しい、わずかな接触傷のみが認められる。 この発行は、1866年の Austro-Prusian戦争の前に自由都市フランクフルトが最後に鋳造した貨幣のひとつであり、統一前のドイツの複雑な政治・通貨情勢を示す興味深い証言となっている。
