He maintained close ties with the Owari Tokugawa family and the statesman Itagaki Taisuke, and was honoured with the right to use the Tokugawa family crest in recognition of his work. He later established a raku kiln in the Nagoya area, and is particularly known for a distinctive, richly coloured glaze referred to as "Tatta-nishiki." Works by Sekishun Kato are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work. This piece is accompanied by its original storage box.
