大胆に手形成された萩焼のぐい呑み（guinomi）を山根清玩が手掛け、彼の代表的な孔雀釉（Kujaku-yu、"peacock glaze"）で仕上げられています。
この杯はおおむね力強く手で形作られ、不規則で有機的な輪郭を持ち、釉が自然に器の縁沿いの肌に溜まり、 cascade のように滴り落ちる様子を許しています。深い虹色の青が、暗くざらついた茶黒の胴体から浮かび上がり、孔雀の羽のきらめきを連想させるような印象的で極めて個性的な表現となっており、作家の特徴として長く受け継がれてきました。未釉の足縁からは、粗い鉱物の斑点が散る萩の粘土胴体がちらりと覗きます。
【作家プロフィール】
山根清玩（生年1932年–?）は山口県萩市出身。1987年に陶芸へ転向し、独学で成形法を習得し、1年足らずで自作の窯を築くと、釉薬化学と粘土成分の研究を自ら進めました。1990年には第3回萩焼祭に招待出品され、作品は高く評価され、その後も同祭に13回以上出品しました。自らの萩焼窯「光彩庵（Kosai-an）」を創設。1992年には「青萩」研究を開始し、最終的に独自の特徴的な釉薬を完成させ、それを「清玩青（Seigan Blue）」と呼んでいます。日本各地で個展を開催しており、神戸・芦屋・大津などを含むほか、伊勢丹（京都）、大丸（大阪）、阪急（大阪）、三越・松坂屋（名古屋）、そごう（大阪）といった大型デパートで特集・展示されています。
