日本の茶道金工の最も尊敬される名のひとつから生まれた、静かな品格を帯びた銅製の立像。
この karakane（鋳 bronze） の器は hishaku-tate — 茶道で竹の柄杓を支えるスタンドとして伝統的に用いられるもの — ですが、その優雅なボトル形成は花器としての用途にも同様に適しています。長く細い首は、巻き上げられた同心円文様の帯で装飾された繊細なカラーを頂き、胴体はふっくらと膨らみ、地に落ち着いた静かな存在感を生み出す丸い底部へと広がります。深い琥珀色の patina は豊かで艶やかで、表面は熟成 bronze のみが放つ柔らかな光を拾います。
この作品には中川乗煕の刻印があり、元箱（友箱）と共に出資者の証として重要視される茶道美術品の出所を示す署名が添えられています。
【作者プロフィール】
中川乘煕は、千家十職の三千家を支える十職の一つである中川家の家名を継ぐ、受継体制の長。金物師としてこの十職の中に位置し、江戸時代初期から茶道の器、風炉筒、蓋置などの金属器を鋳造してきました。もともとは越後国の甲冑師であり、初代は利休自らの要望で茶道具の製作を始めたと伝えられています。三代目はこの系統で最良の鋳造者として称えられ、難しい沙釈亀合金技法を再発見したことで知られます。十一代目の乗煕は2008年に没し、それ以降は同名の称号が空席となっており、これらの作品は限定的な個体として位置づけられます。
