Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Original publicity drawing by Walt Disney Studios for The Whalers (circa 1938/1940s), featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy on a 12-field, five-peghole animation sheet, 32 cm by 27 cm, in excellent condition and attributed to Manuel Gonzales.
Description from the seller
exceptional original Walt Disney Studios publicity/concept drawing connected with the 1938 animated short The Whalers, featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.
This single sheet contains two lively page-layout compositions, marked in red pencil “PAGE 21” and “22”. In the first composition, Mickey and Goofy watch as Donald struggles with a lobster; in the second, Donald appears through an open hatch while Mickey and Goofy look on, with the lobster reappearing at the lower right. The expressive character poses, construction lines, framing guides and corrections offer a fascinating insight into the Disney drawing process.
The artwork was executed by hand in blue and red coloured pencil on an original 12-field, five-peghole animation sheet. It is a unique piece of original artwork—not a print, reproduction or production cel.
Dated circa 1938/1940s and attributed them to Disney Legend Manuel Gonzales (1913–1993). Gonzales joined Walt Disney Studios in 1936, contributed to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and later became particularly celebrated for his long association with the Mickey Mouse Sunday comic strip.
Drawings of this type were probably prepared for a children’s book inspired by Dick Huemer’s The Whalers and may also have contributed to the development of other publicity material.
Very Good vintage condition, with light age-related toning and slight handling and edge wear, consistent with its age. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
