Description:

The lid is in the shape of an inverted saucer, with an outward-flaring rim and a raised surface. The top is topped with a sculpted, reclining beast-shaped knob, its form rustic and simple, the beast's body showing signs of soil erosion. The inside of the lid has a flat navel, the grayish-brown body showing signs of excavation patina, and the lid surface is covered with a bluish-gray glaze, exhibiting natural, fine crackles. A thin glaze at the rim reveals a light brown body.

The vase has a dish-shaped mouth and a constricted neck, decorated with several clean raised string patterns. It has full shoulders and a bulging belly, decorated with typical Northern Song Dynasty slanted carvings. The shoulders are carved with scrolling lotus patterns, while the belly is covered with flowing, intertwined lotus flower patterns, the layers of flowers and leaves distinct. The lower belly is encircled with upward-facing lotus petals, the decorations echoing each other. The short foot rim reveals a grayish-brown sandy body with a noticeable granular texture. The base shows traces of iron-red stains, soil patina, and old ink writing.

The entire piece is covered in a bluish-gray glaze; the glaze layer is warm and lustrous, with crackled glaze throughout, and the glaze surface contains original firing black spots. Where the glaze is thin, the ochre-brown body is visible. The animal-shaped knob is simple in style, and the sandy base and soil stains are characteristics of excavated ancient artifacts. It belongs to a set of storage and display ritual vessels from the mid-Northern Song Dynasty Longquan kiln.

(Accompanied by a 2001 artifact authentication certificate), with a clear provenance, suitable for collectors of ancient porcelain.

This piece can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty, approximately between 960 and 1127 AD. It was handmade by Chinese artisans, and its materials and exposed clay parts can distinguish its material and production period.

Condition:

Good condition, with signs of use, generally well-preserved. Minor chips are visible on the foot, indicating old damage, without signs of repair. The object has been examined using strong UV light. (Please refer to the photos if the text is not clear enough.)
