現代日本の最も名高い陶芸家の一人が生み出した静かな威厳を放つ水指。
今井正之介が得意とする表現技法「印花彩」(inka)を手作業で施した石器（stoneware）で、彼の名高い胎菩提系の仕上げ群に特徴的な refined stamped floral surface を用いたこの水指は、彼の作とすぐに見分けられる dense, rhythmic textureを帯びています。丸みを帯びた胴体全体に押し型の花模様が均一に広がり、光と影を等しく捉えつつ、濃い縁と蓋が作品を静かな権威で地盤づけします。茶道での使用を前提に作られており、機能の厳格さと熟年の作家の筆致が放つ存在感を併せ持っています。
【作家プロフィール】
今井正之介（1930年–2023）は、戦後日本を代表する最も著名な陶芸家の一人です。大阪出身で広島県で育ち、備前で修行ののち久瀬八一の下で京都へ移り学びました。1978年には自らの祝山窯を竹原に築き、京都と広島の間で作家活動を続けました。胎彩系釉薬の開発と、面の象嵌である面彫（men-zogan）を先駆けて確立し、国際的にも高く評価されました。2003年に日本美術院会員に、2018年には日本の最高位の名誉の一つである文化勲章を受章し、日展の運営委員を務めました。今井の作品は現在生産されていません。 本作は限定的な作品群です。
