Description from the seller

K jo K嬢 (Kじょう) | Funakoshi Yasutake 舟越保武 (ふなこしやすたけ)

Description:
This sculpture is a work by Yasutake Funakoshi. Funakoshi did not create his works while looking at a model; instead, he kept the figure of the model in his memory. By expressing the image in his memory in an idealized form, Funakoshi's unchanging thoughts were given shape. Together with the sculptor Churyo Sato, whom he met during his time at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, he formed a lifelong friendship and led the post-war Japanese sculpture world. After graduation, he began marble sculpture and released numerous works that attracted attention. Among them, his works based on Christian faith and the martyrdom of Christians were unsurpassed by others. Although he collapsed from a cerebral infarction in 1987 and became paralyzed on the right side of his body, he continued to create works with his left hand until just before his death.
