A well-preserved, early edition copy of John Henry Pepper's "Cyclopaedic Science Simplified", a landmark work of Victorian popular science. While the publisher's imprint remains undated, a clean, contemporary owner's inscription on the front free endpaper firmly places this specific copy in 1876.
The author, John Henry Pepper—celebrated chemist, director of London's Royal Polytechnic Institution, and inventor of the famous "Pepper's Ghost" theatrical illusion—compiled this volume to demystify 19th-century scientific breakthroughs.
