Description from the seller
Origin: Japan
Craft: Wajima-nuri (輪島塗) lacquerware
Material: Lacquered wood
Period: 20th century
Condition:
As new. Preserved in excellent condition with its beautiful glossy lacquer surface. It has been carefully stored together with its original paper box, adjustable display stand, and Wajima lacquerware leaflet.
────────
An elegant Japanese lacquer vase crafted in the celebrated tradition of Wajima-nuri (輪島塗), one of Japan’s most renowned lacquerware traditions.
The tall, slender body is finished in deep glossy black lacquer and decorated with a graceful camellia (tsubaki / 椿) motif. The warm red-orange flower and delicately rendered green and gold-toned leaves create a striking contrast against the dark lacquer ground.
The floral decoration is particularly attractive at close range, with subtle gradations of colour giving depth to the petals and foliage, complemented by fine gold-toned details.
Camellias have long been appreciated in Japanese decorative arts for their elegant form and seasonal beauty, making the motif particularly well suited to the refined surface of Wajima lacquerware.
The vase is accompanied by its original paper storage box, a Wajima lacquerware leaflet describing the history and tradition of Wajima-shikki, and a specially designed adjustable display stand. The movable construction of the stand allows the vase to be positioned in different arrangements for display.
With its deep black lacquer, colourful floral decoration and complete set of accompanying accessories, this is an attractive example of traditional Japanese decorative lacquerware suitable both for display and for a Japanese art collection.
