Description (Dutch):
Exceptional, rare and complete antique mechanical butter churn (karnton / butter churn) from the early 20th century (ca. 1900-1920), marked "Holland" in an elegant calligraphic typeface.
This lot is a true collector’s piece. While most historical churns with a cast-iron gear mechanism were equipped with a wooden tub or glass jar, this premium specimen features a heavy, white-glazed porcelain/ceramic crock.
The most unique and rare detail is the internal mechanism: the lower churn paddle/wheel is also entirely made of heavy glazed porcelain with a finely ribbed texture, designed to efficiently churn the cream into butter. The inner surface of the pot also features diagonally cut grooves to optimize friction during rotation.
The whole setup is driven by a robust cast-iron gear system with a wooden hand crank. The two-piece wooden lid closes the pot perfectly.
Rarity & Condition:
Churns with a porcelain interior and tub are extremely scarce, as such fragile kitchenware rarely survives intact over the past century. This piece remains in an exceptionally good, original condition with only very light, authentic age-related and usage marks on the wood and cast iron that enhance its character. Mechanically, the wheel turns smoothly.
A splendid and museum-quality decorative object for collectors of antique kitchenalia, rural heritage, or fine Dutch antiques.
Packaging & Shipping:
It will be carefully packed using bubble wrap, foam, and cardboard and shipped registered and insured with Track and Trace. Due to its weight and size, it will be sent as an XXL package.
