Description
A fine Fulani / Peul ring from West Africa, made in low-grade silver or silver alloy.

Fulani jewellery is often remarkable for the way it combines personal adornment, symbolic form and architectural inspiration. Rings of this type are small objects, but they can have a strong sculptural presence through their vertical construction and refined metalwork.

This example is built around a rounded conical upper element, rising from a circular crown of small raised beads or nodules. The design is simple but very effective: the smooth central dome contrasts beautifully with the more textured lower border.

The ring has a sober and elegant silhouette, almost architectural in character. Its form may evoke a stylised dome, turret or symbolic structure, in keeping with the visual language often found in Fulani silver ornaments.

The surface shows an old grey patina, with darker areas in the recesses and softer rubbed highlights on the raised parts. These traces of handling give the object a pleasant worn character.

A charming Fulani ring, appreciated for its conical sculptural form, beaded crown decoration, old patina and refined simplicity.
