authentic antique enamel sign for “Fabrique de Couvre Pieds J. Taillard,” a Parisian manufacturer of foot warmers, located at 20 Rue du Dragon, near Carrefour de la Croix Rouge in Paris. The oval, domed board measures 90.6 x 70 cm and has a bright yellow enamel background with large black letters: FABRIQUE DE COUVRE PIEDS, J. TAILLARD, 20 RUE DU DRAGON, Cr DE LA CROIX ROUGE A 50 MÈTRES, RÉFECTIONS TRANSFORMATIONS. Around the edge of the board is the manufacturer’s stamp “1498 24.8.28,” indicating a production date of August 24, 1928, together with traces of the markings “PUBLICITÉ” and “EMAIL,” characteristic of French enamel signs from that period. Due to its domed shape and large size, the sign was most likely hung on a corner house at a busy intersection, so it was visible from several streets.

This is a rare Parisian advertising piece of handsome size, originating from Rue du Dragon in the 6th arrondissement, a district historically known for its artisans and small workshops.

It is an original domed enamel sign of almost a hundred years old. The sign shows honest signs of use appropriate to its age, with a few chips and rust spots along the edges and around the mounting holes, visible in the photos. At the bottom of the sign, there are two small areas lightly retouched, see photos. The enamel and lettering are otherwise well preserved and fully legible.
