トゥルカナ族の間では、タバコ用鼻煙は伝統的にアルカリ性の添加物とともに用いられ、砕壊貝殻などの鉱物質で作られることが多かった。この小さな容器は、その粉末状の物質を入れるためのもので、それを後でタバコ鼻煙と混ぜて用いることができた。
