以下はこの品の公式かつ完全なコレクター向け説明です。
Item Identification Card
Official name: Médaille militaire (Military Medal).
Country of origin: French Republic.
Period / Version: French Third Republic (minted during World War I). This is evidenced by the single-piece, flat-backed trophy-style suspension and the rigid ring mounting.
Material: Silver (laurel wreath), enamel (blue ring), and gilding (central medallions with Marianne and inscription).
Ribbon: Original silk moiré ribbon (yellow with green edges).
Historical Context
The Médaille Militaire is one of the most important decorations in French history. Established in 1852, it was unique in that it was awarded exclusively to enlisted men and non-commissioned officers for exceptional acts of bravery on the battlefield. Senior officers were not eligible to receive it, with one exception: this medal represented the highest possible command distinction for Generals and Admirals who were Commanders-in-Chief of the Army (it was worn by, among others, Marshal Ferdinand Foch and British Marshal Bernard Montgomery).
Your copy dates from the Great War (1914–1918). Thousands of such medals were awarded in the trenches of Verdun and the Somme.
