このローマの仮面は、酔っぱらいか悪人を表しています。顔には疲れた目、口を開いた表情、そして奇妙な表情のような強く誇張された特徴があります。古代ローマでは、このような仮面は劇場や祭りで酒飲み、悪い行い、コントロールを失われる様子を示すために使われました。人間は常にひどい決断を娯楽へと変えるのを楽しんできました。
この特定のケースでは、おそらく酒の神を表していると考えられます。というのも、物体の背面には杯の形をした部分があり、酒を注いで飲むためのものだったからです。古代の人々は本当に杯を見て「これにはドラマチックな顔が必要だ」と思い込んだのでしょう。何とか彼らは正しかったのです。
