This is an exquisite decorative vase by Fujii Syumei (藤井朱明 Fujii Syumei 1936-), a distinguished Arita ware artist renowned for his participation in the prestigious Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition).

Artist Profile
Fujii Syumei (藤井朱明 1936-) was born in 1936 in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain.
Beginning his career at age 15, he worked at various akae (red overglaze) workshops and ceramic companies in Arita. In 1962, his work "Kanryu" (Cold Current) was accepted for the Nitten exhibition for the first time, followed by 15 subsequent acceptances.
He established his independence in 1963 as a nishikitsuke (brocade application) processing business, and in 1974, he opened the Syumei Kiln.
Throughout his illustrious career, Fujii has garnered numerous prestigious awards, including recognition at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Minister of Education Award at the Kyushu-Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition, and the Japan New Craft Award at the Japan New Craft Exhibition. He is known for his distinctive technique of using leaves in underglaze blue decoration, expressing the four seasons and the spiritual landscapes of Arita.
Fujii is a member of the Nitten Association (Nitten Kaiyu) and the Saga Art Association.
His works are characterized by meticulous craftsmanship and a deep understanding of traditional Arita ceramic techniques, combined with contemporary sensibilities.
