Description from the seller

Pair of Large Indian Repoussé & Chased White Metal Wall Panels Depicting the Noble Couple Shah Jahan and Mumtaz – Mid 20th Century

Description

A striking pair of large Indian repoussé and chased white metal wall panels depicting an elegant noble couple in traditional courtly attire.

Each panel features a finely modelled full-length figure surrounded by elaborate floral ornamentation. One panel portrays a noble lady holding a flower, while the companion panel depicts a noble gentleman wearing an ornate turban and ceremonial court dress, together forming a harmonious decorative pair.

Executed in high relief using traditional repoussé and chasing techniques, the panels display finely detailed facial features, jewellery, garments and decorative motifs. Selected details retain an attractive gilt-coloured finish, creating a subtle contrast with the white metal surface and enhancing the overall richness of the composition.

Each panel is mounted on its original wooden backing. Original mounting holes remain visible in the four inner corners, indicating that the panels were intended for architectural or wall-mounted decorative use.

Dimensions (each panel): approximately 54 × 50 × 3.8 cm

Weight:

* Panel 1: 4,724 g
* Panel 2: 4,548 g

An impressive pair representing the rich tradition of Indian repoussé metalwork, ideal for collectors of Indian art, ethnographic objects and historic decorative metalwork.

The photographs are an integral part of the item description and condition report.
