【Product details】

This set consists of three finely crafted miniature samurai helmets created by the renowned armour craftsman Kato Icchu II (二代目 加藤一冑). Each helmet reproduces a distinctive historical kabuto associated with a famous Japanese warrior and is accompanied by its original signed wooden box, purple wrapping cloth, and wooden display base.

Kato Icchu II (born 1933) was one of Japan’s leading modern armour craftsmen. Trained by his father, the first Kato Icchu, he became highly respected for the historically accurate restoration and reproduction of armour, including National Treasure and Important Cultural Property pieces. He was recognised as a Tokyo Traditional Craftsperson and received the title of Honorary Citizen of Tokyo in 2009.

The set is titled “Masters of Exceptional Skill” and features three famous helmet styles linked to celebrated warriors:

Asari Yoshito (浅利義遠) – “Three Iris Helmet”
A warrior praised as Japan’s finest archer by Minamoto no Yoritomo. The eboshi-shaped helmet style was widely used during the Sengoku period by famous warlords including Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Mōri Motonari. The number “28” is written inside the helmet and on the outer box.

Suzuki Shigeie (鈴木重家) – “Placed Towel Helmet”
A loyal companion of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The helmet is named for its unusual form resembling a folded towel placed on the head.

Omori Morinaga (大森盛長) – “Saika-style Bowl Helmet”
A warrior who supported Ashikaga Takauji. This helmet style resembles Mongolian helmets and originated in the Saika region of present-day Wakayama Prefecture.

Each helmet is carefully detailed and beautifully presented, making the set an appealing display piece for collectors of samurai armour and Japanese craftsmanship.

Overall, the set shows minor age-related wear. There is slight scuffs and patina to the metal parts, and some areas show small losses to the surface coating. Please refer to the photos for details.

※Important: For Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Monaco and Portugal, orders of €150 or less cannot currently be shipped due to the new €3 customs duty/IOSS issue.
