ABOUT THE WORK

A First Journey is a celebration of the enduring bond between mother and child — and the love, strength and wisdom passed quietly from one generation to the next.

The elephant represents family, protection, memory and enduring connection. Known for their powerful social bonds, elephants become a natural symbol for the relationships that shape us and the foundations we carry throughout our lives.

The painting reflects on the idea that a mother's legacy is not simply what she leaves behind, but what she passes forward — strength, guidance, belonging and the confidence to eventually find our own way.

Expressive marks, layered texture and contemporary composition bring the elephants to life while leaving space for the viewer to connect the work with their own memories of family, parenthood and belonging.

South African-born with Italian heritage, Luca Domiro is a UK-based contemporary artist whose work explores identity, memory, renewal, movement and our emotional connection with nature.

Inspired by African wildlife, dramatic landscapes, coastlines and experiences gathered through travel, his paintings combine recognisable forms with expressive abstraction.

Working primarily in acrylics, Domiro uses bold colour, layered texture and intuitive mark-making to create contemporary works that invite personal interpretation while retaining a strong sense of place and emotional connection.

His work is held in private collections across the United Kingdom, Europe, United States and Canada** and has been featured in publications including ELLE Decoration and House & Garden.
