Document of Grief and Anger

Hiroshi Hamaya
Kawade Shobo Shinsha /1960/Japanese/258*180*8

Record of Anger and Sorrow is a collection of photographs by Japan's world-renowned photographer Hiroshi Hamaya. A news photographer and documentary photographer, Hiroshi Hamaya continued to take photographs mainly of people living in the climate and countryside of Japan before and after World War II, and continued to produce a number of significant photographs that sounded alarm bells about the problems of the region. In 1960, he became the first Japanese photographer to become a member of Magnum Photos as a contributor. This book is a collection of photographs published in 1960 and, along with the above-mentioned works, is regarded as one of Hiroshi Hamaya's best-known works, and is a documentary (with paraffin) of the entirety of the ‘Security Struggle’, an unprecedented large-scale riot by workers, students and ordinary citizens against the US-Japan Security Treaty that broke out between 1959 and 1960.
(Included in Parr & Badger Vol. III and The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990).
