A rare, complete five (5) piece bourgeois salon suite from the late Ottoman period in Crete, Greece, dating to circa 1880. The suite includes one (1) 3-seater sofa, two (2) armchairs, and two (2) side chairs (without armrests).

HISTORICAL PROVENANCE & SIGNIFICANCE (EXCEPTIONAL):
This salon suite possesses an extraordinary, fully documented historical provenance, closely tied to the 19th-century elite administration of Crete and the Phanariote nobility:
• Original Owners: It belonged to the prominent bourgeois family of Konstantinos G. Axelos—a high-ranking diplomat and administrator who served as Prefect of Sfakia, Malevizi, and Sitia (1867), Governor of Sfakia and Lasithi (1890), and Prefect of Lasithi (1896)—and his wife, Anna N. Aristarchi.
• Phanariote Connection: Anna N. Aristarchi descended from the illustrious Aristarchis family, an ancient and influential lineage of Phanariote scholars, diplomats, and high officials of the Sublime Porte.
• The Dowry of Maria Axelos: This historic suite was given as a formal dowry to their daughter, Maria Kon. Axelos (born in Rethymno, 1881–1968), upon her marriage to Georgios I. Kanetsios.
