An exceptionally saturated red body crowned by a distinct purple cap immediately defines this remarkable Rubellite Tourmaline from the Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais. What makes the crystal particularly unusual is the three stage axial colour sequence preserved within a single prism: the dominant vivid red body rises through almost the entire crystal, passes through a narrow near colourless transitional zone and finally develops into a clearly differentiated purple upper cap. Although only two zones carry strong colour, the intervening transparent layer gives the specimen the visual architecture of a naturally triple zoned crystal.

The principal body colour is an intense and remarkably pure red, with the saturation concentrated through the central axis while remaining sufficiently transparent for light to penetrate deeply into the crystal. Under transmitted illumination, this red becomes dramatically more luminous and develops vivid pink to neon pink reflections, particularly through the cleaner internal sections. The result is a crystal with two very different optical personalities: a rich red under normal illumination and a considerably brighter pink expression when light passes through from behind.

Above the red body, the colour gradually weakens into an almost transparent transitional band before the upper section changes again into purple.
