Namiki Mt. Fuji and Dragon Makie fountain pen from the Nippon Art Collection, with a 14K (.585) gold nib in Medium, lacquered urushi ground with hira-maki-e depicting Mt. Fuji and a dragon, complete with original box, warranty card and manual, unused and never inked.
Description from the seller
Item Description:
This is a NAMIKI luxury maki-e (raden lacquer) fountain pen from the Nippon Art Collection, featuring the design "Mt. Fuji and Dragon" (富士と龍) — model FN-35SM-FR. The pen is decorated using the traditional hira-maki-e (flat maki-e) technique against a deep black urushi lacquer ground, depicting Mount Fuji beneath a coiling dragon rendered in gold powder — two of Japan's most auspicious motifs, symbolising strength, good fortune, and rising ambition.
The maki-e work was produced under the supervision of Kokkokai (國光會), the elite guild of lacquer artisans founded in 1931 that has overseen every Namiki maki-e pen for nearly a century. Each piece carries the Kokkokai mark as a guarantee of quality and authenticity.
The pen is fitted with a 14K (585) gold nib in a Medium (M) point, size 5. It comes complete with its original presentation box, warranty card, instruction manual, and one ink cartridge — the pen itself is unused and has never been inked.
A striking piece for any serious fountain pen collector or lover of Japanese lacquer art.
Size:
Height: 14 cm (approx. capped length)
Condition:
Unused, new-old-stock condition (NS) with no visible scratches or signs of use; the pen has never been inked. Complete with original box, warranty card, and instruction manual.
Artist Profile:
Kokkokai (國光會) is the guild of Japanese maki-e lacquer artisans founded in 1931, organised around master lacquerer Matsuda Gonroku, who was later designated a Living National Treasure of Japan. Named to reflect the belief that "maki-e is the glory of the nation" (蒔絵は御国の光である), Kokkokai has produced every Namiki maki-e fountain pen for close to a century, with each finished work bearing the Kokkokai signature as its mark of authenticity and craftsmanship.
