Semimaru mask are one of the most representative special Noh mask in Japanese Noh theater. They are mainly used to portray the protagonist of the Noh play "Semimaru"—Prince Semimaru, who is exiled to Mount Osaka and becomes blind.

蝉丸の面は、日本の能劇における最も代表的な特別能面の一つです。主に能劇『蝉丸』の主人公である蝉丸王子を描くために用いられます。彼は大阪山へ追放され、盲目となりました。

The most striking feature of this mask lies in its serene and profound expression: eyes slightly closed, brows conveying a tranquility and sorrow transcending worldly concerns. Although the face bears the characteristics of someone blind, it does not appear sorrowful; instead, it presents a peace and wisdom gained through life's experiences, embodying the "yūgen" (subtle mystery) beauty pursued in Japanese Noh theater.

この面の最も際立つ特徴は、穏やかで深い表情にあります。瞼はわずかに閉じられ、眉は世俗を超えた静けさと哀愁を伝えます。盲目の人の特徴を持ちつつも、悲しそうには見えず、人生の経験を通じて得られた平和と知恵を示し、日本の能劇で追求される"幽玄"（微妙な謎の美）を体現しています。
