Diese außergewöhnliche Kugel aus versteinertem Holz präsentiert sich mit einer eindrucksvollen Kombination aus rötlichen, karamellfarbenen und cremeweißen Tönen, die sich wie organische Jahresringe über die polierte Oberfläche ziehen. Die lebendige Struktur erinnert noch deutlich an die urzeitliche Holzmaserung, wodurch die Verbindung zwischen mineralischer Verwandlung und ursprünglichem Pflanzenmaterial wunderbar sichtbar wird.

Die warmen Rot- und Ockerzonen leuchten förmlich aus dem Inneren heraus, während hellere, fast milchige Partien eine sanfte Tiefe erzeugen. It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone : there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks.
Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood : the silicon.
And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
