木瓜木（ツゲ）で彫られ、磨き上げられた表面の暖かな蜂蜜色調と、折り目の黒味を選んで付けた部分が特徴的で、江戸末期〜明治初期の京都風または大阪風の netsuke 作品に特有の処理がみられる。
