Obverse:
Features the central figure of the Immaculate Conception standing upon a crescent moon and stepping on the biblical serpent. She is encircled by traditional Marian symbols from the Litany of Loreto (including the Sun, Moon, Tower, Ark, Mirror, and Fountain).

Inscription: TVTELARIS REGNI (Patroness/Protector of the Kingdom)
Exergue: Dated 1646 at the base.

Reverse:
Displays the crowned Coat of Arms of Portugal superimposed on the Cross of the Order of Christ.

Inscription: IOANNES IIII D.G. PORTVGALIAE ET ALGARBIAE REX (John IV, by the Grace of God, King of Portugal and the Algarves)
