Original USSR State Emblem wall plaque, cast aluminium, 32 cm high by 22 cm wide by 4 cm deep, from the Soviet Union, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Original heavy cast aluminium State Emblem of the USSR – an authentic piece of Soviet architectural, industrial and ideological history.
32 x 22 cm
This impressive wall-mounted emblem features the instantly recognizable symbols of the Soviet Union: a large raised “СССР” inscription, five-pointed star, hammer and sickle, wheat sheaves and decorative ribbons, together with the famous slogan at the bottom:
“Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!” – “Workers of the world, unite!”
Unlike some official versions of the Soviet coat of arms, the ribbons on this particular emblem are decorative and do not carry inscriptions in the languages of the individual Soviet republics. This is an important characteristic of this specific version and is clearly visible in the photographs.
Produced as a substantial cast-metal architectural piece rather than a lightweight souvenir, the emblem has a powerful sculptural relief and strong visual presence. The deeply raised USSR lettering, star, wheat, hammer and sickle create the monumental aesthetic associated with Soviet state and industrial design.
Three original mounting holes at the top demonstrate that the piece was intended for permanent installation on a wall, façade, gate, industrial structure or institutional interior.
The reverse remains completely visible and shows the characteristic rough surface of traditional cast production, providing further evidence of its utilitarian architectural purpose.
100% original. Made in the USSR.
Specifications:
Material: cast aluminium / aluminium alloy
Technique: cast metal relief
Origin: USSR
Period: Soviet / Cold War era
Type: architectural or institutional wall emblem
Mounting: three original mounting holes
Large, heavy and highly decorative relief construction
Historical Context:
State emblems of this type formed an important part of the visual landscape of the Soviet Union. They could be found on government institutions, industrial enterprises, factories, railway facilities, military-related sites, administrative buildings, public organizations and other state property.
Unlike medals, badges or domestic souvenirs, large cast emblems were created as elements of the actual Soviet built environment. Their purpose was to make the authority and presence of the state immediately recognizable through monumental symbols.
Following the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, huge numbers of Soviet emblems and architectural symbols were removed from public buildings and industrial facilities. Many metal examples were subsequently discarded, destroyed or melted for scrap.
As a result, surviving original cast examples represent not simply Soviet memorabilia, but genuine fragments of the physical environment of the former USSR.
Collectible & Interior Value:
A visually powerful historical object particularly suitable for:
Soviet and Cold War memorabilia collections
Militaria collections
Industrial and Brutalist interiors
Loft and studio decoration
Historical displays
Museums and themed collections
Soviet propaganda and political history collections
Its raw silver-grey metal surface, large sculptural relief and unmistakable Soviet symbolism give the emblem a particularly strong decorative presence.
This is the kind of object that was originally created to be seen from a distance rather than held in the hand – a genuine piece of monumental Soviet visual culture.
Condition
Good vintage condition with authentic age-related patina, surface traces, small casting irregularities and signs of previous use consistent with its age and original industrial production.
The item has not been artificially restored to a modern appearance, preserving its authentic vintage character.
Please carefully examine all photographs, including detailed close-ups and photographs of the reverse, as they form an important part of the description and clearly demonstrate the condition, construction and authenticity of the piece.
