古代近東・アナトリア・シロ・ヒッタイト領域、紀元前2千年紀頃。銅で作られ、互いに結びついた2つの珍しい宗教的偶像像の優雅な集まり。像は、おそらく男女で、1体の台座の上に立ち、腕を互いに回し合っている。
高さ65 mm、重さ33 g。
このような銅の奉納像は、紀元前の文字のない古代世界のさまざまな魅力的な形で知られている。ほとんど人間と認識できないほど抽象的なキリア型の像から、いわゆる「ヴィーナス像」と呼ばれる過度に女性的な形状まで、過去の人々は今日と同様、人間の姿を描く明確な欲求を持っており、自然主義に縛られていなかった。こうしたミニチュア像は、神を描くというよりは崇拝者を描いているように見え、銅製であっても普通の人々が所有し、家庭の祭壇に置くには小さすぎなかったと考えられる。古代近東の多くの人々が、こうした類例とともに埋葬されているのが見られる。
