この vase は大きな古陶の日本製花瓶で、ko-imari（古伊万里）様式の blue-and-white 陶磁器。明治時代末期の作と推定されます。
花瓶には、日本の古地図が古美術風に描かれており、国内のすべての歴史的な州（国、くに）がそれぞれ隆起した不均一なカルトゥーシュとして表され、藍は underglaze blue で州名が刻まれています。
これらの隆起部が結ぶと日本列島の全体像が形成され、花瓶の丸い胴部をぐるりと包み、佐渡などの小さな離島も独自の楕円形カルトゥーシュで示されています。
特に印象的なのは、地図が単に平面に描かれているのではなく、州間の境界が隆起して不均一である点で、表面全体に三次元的で彫刻的、石畳のような触感を生み出している点です。
胴体の高く広がる首と海域には、力強いスタイリッシュな波模様があしらわれており、古伊万里の伝統的なデザイン要素の典型です。
この作品は大ぶりで重厚な磁器で、良好な状態を保っています。

この大花瓶には個別の作家サインはありません。阿里多（有田、Saga 県）の青と白の磁器伝統である古伊万里焼の優れた例で、伊万里港を通じて流通してきた名高い器です。
制作は17世紀初頭に始まり、朝鮮半島の陶工が地域に磁器技術を導入した後、ここに見られるような藍手施（sometsuke）装飾がこの時代の最初で最も長く続く様式となりました。
この特定のデザインは、個々の州から成る日本全図を示すもので、地図の細部と地名を藍で描く前に、各隆起した「州」部を別々に造形する高度な技術が求められる独特で技術的に難易度の高いモチーフです。
このような大きな地図花瓶のような作品は、磁器画家の技量と、国家の歴史的地理を誇らしげに記録した視覚的記念品として制作されてきました。
