Antique cut-crystal decanter from France, dating to ca. 1800–1850, with an elongated silhouette, hand-cut decoration of vertical flutes, a cross-hatched band and a central geometric facet frieze, a substantial faceted stopper, height 22.5 cm, top diameter 3.8 cm, base diameter 25 cm, transparent crystal, in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Exceptional antique cut-crystal decanter dating from the early 19th century.
The decanter presents an elegant elongated silhouette, with a softly rounded lower body, sloping shoulders and a tall, gracefully narrowing neck. Its elaborate hand-cut decoration is arranged in beautifully contrasting horizontal sections: broad vertical flutes, a finely cross-hatched band and an impressive central frieze of deeply cut geometric facets. The lower body is finished with long arched cuts that enhance its refined proportions.
The design is completed by a substantial, superbly faceted stopper of architectural form. Its broad octagonal top captures and refracts the light beautifully, giving the decanter a remarkable brilliance and imposing presence.
Considering its age of approximately two centuries, the decanter remains in good antique condition. Normal traces of time and use are present, including surface scratches, minor irregularities, light internal marks and other small age-related imperfections. These details are consistent with the considerable age and authentic history of the piece.
A magnificent example of early 19th-century crystal craftsmanship, highly decorative and particularly impressive when displayed in natural light. Please consider the photographs an integral part of the description.
