Celestinaはラテン語caelestis（天国の、天空の色）に由来し、クリスタルの色を指す語です。
無色または淡い青味を帯びた板状の結晶として現れ、主に石灰岩や堆積岩中に見られ、石膏、重晶石、岩塩、硫黄と結びついています。他の形態として、プリズマ状、針状、薄板状（赤、白、青）、繊維状、粗大、粒状、塊状にも現れます。
セレスタinaは熱水脈起源であることもあり、方鉛鉱（ガレナ）やブレンダと関連する場合があります。また、塩水の蒸発に伴う蒸発岩として沈積して硫黄、石膏、カルボネート、塩化物、その他の典型的な鉱物と共生することもあります。
自然界での形
一般に長く延びた結晶（時には板状）で現れ、無色または乳白色、黄味がかった色、青色を帯び、放射状または平行に集合した集合体、塊状または団塊状です。
