This is an original Japanese woodblock print by Iwao Akiyama (1921–2014), one of the distinctive artists of the modern Japanese sōsaku-hanga tradition.
The work, titled Shigure, is dated 1979 and numbered 148/200. The artist's name and red seal are visible in the lower margin.
Akiyama is particularly known for his expressive depictions of owls, cats and other animals, executed with strong black forms on handmade Japanese paper. His works frequently incorporate Japanese poetry and calligraphic text.
The present work features a characteristic black animal figure together with bold calligraphic lettering on naturally textured handmade washi.

Condition:
The print has age-related toning, foxing/staining and minor surface imperfections consistent with its age. The frame also shows signs of age and use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photographs form an important part of the condition description.
