A visually striking Japanese viewing stone, Abekawa-ishi, presented on a fitted wooden base.

The stone displays an impressive three-dimensional landscape with a succession of rounded mountain peaks, steep ridges and deep valleys. Particularly attractive are the contrasting pale veins running across the darker stone surface, evoking waterfalls and streams descending through a mountain landscape.

Its appearance changes considerably from different viewing angles. Each side reveals a different arrangement of peaks, valleys and flowing lines, giving this compact stone a surprisingly dramatic sense of depth.

The dark, subdued coloration combined with the lighter veins creates a refined and atmospheric landscape characteristic of the Japanese tradition of appreciating stones for the scenery they evoke.
