モルダバイト（チェコ語：Vltavín）は、南ドイツのノルトリンガー・リースでの隕石衝突により形成された可能性のあるオリーブグリーンまたはくすんだ緑がかったガラス質物質で、ひとつのテクトイトであると考えられます。1786年には、プラハ大学のヨーゼフ・マイヤー教授の講義（ボヘミア科学協会の会合で朗読）により、チェコのティーン・ナド・ヴルタヴァロヴ（Týn nad Vltavou）産の「クリソライト」として科学界に初めて紹介されました（Mayer 1788）。1836年にはジッペが、現在のボヘミア（チェコ共和国）にあるモルダウトヘイン（チェコ語：Týn nad Vltavou）という町に由来する語として“モルダバイト”を初めて用いました。これが最初に記述された標本の出所です。
