Elegant portable peddler's chest 行商箱 in a single section. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.
Crafted from hinoki cypress wood and exhibiting a golden-brown finish, this chest was designed for ease of transport. It includes ten drawers of the same size, and one larger at the bottom, all with their own iron ‘kakute’-shaped handles. A lock bar extends all over the ten smaller drawers.
With both two handles on each side and double rings on the back, this set up allowed the peddler to carry the chest like a backpack!
Period: Japan – Taishô (1912-1926).
Dimensions:
Height 87 cm, Width 54 cm, Depth 33 cm.
The chest is in a very good restored condition with some traces of wear conform use and age. No keys included. Please look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
