From Mine No. 6, Agrileza mines, Lophos, Lavrion Mining District, Lavreotiki, East Attica, Greece
The mineral was known until the last century with the name Kalamina, a name that was also used for Hemiformite, a fact that brought some confusion. In 1802, however, the miner James Smithson distinguished him and separated him from the Hemiforms and honorably took his name. Known since antiquity in Lavrio and Thassos in Greece.
