卓越した「Unran」（雲藍色）の glazed vase は、日本美術院の会員であり、現代日本で最も華やかな陶芸家の一人、茂野大命の strikingな作品です。肩から底へと走る大胆な未釉の帯が、光を帯びたターコイズ系の表面を断ち切り、斑点の灰色がかった粘土が現れる—釉と素焼の対比が、京を基盤とする Morino の洗練された現代感覚を体現しています。元の友箱が付属し、「Unran Kabin」（Unran Vase）と題された記名、そして元の署名入り布包（ tomonuno ）が付いています。
【作家プロフィール】
茂野大命（1934年生、京都）は、現代日本陶芸を代表する最も著名な人物の一人です。京都の名陶工・茂野量の息子として生まれ、智慶友麿や近藤庸三に師事しました。1957年には権威ある日展に初出品し、1960年には同展の最高賞である北斗賞を受賞、その後1960年代初頭にはシカゴ大学の客員講師を務めました。六十余年に及ぶキャリアの中で、茂野は日本の最高位の美術賞を数多く受賞してきました。日本芸術院賞（2007年）、日本芸術院会員（2010年）、瑞宝章（黄綬褒章・宝珠章ではなく金銀賞の意図かもしれませんが原文のまま「Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays」として記載）といった栄誉、そして文化勲章被授賞者（2021年）などです。彼の作品はパリのポンピドゥー・センター、ロンドンのヴィクトリア＆アルバート博物館、ワシントンのスミソニアン、ボストン美術館など、海外の美術館にも広く展示されています。ここに示されている彼の代表的な Unran 釉は、彼の最も称賛され、求められる技法の一つです。
