Wilma Lucas, born in 1936, is a French painter known in particular for her Parisian scenes and evocations of urban life in an atmosphere inspired by the Belle Époque. Her work follows an Impressionist approach, with an emphasis on light, colour and the lively character of the scenes she depicts.

The artist developed a vibrant and luminous style of painting, in which figures, architecture and effects of light combine to evoke an elegant and animated Parisian atmosphere.

This work, entitled “Paris, Flower-Filled Promenade”, depicts a particularly lively Parisian street lined with numerous flower stalls. Elegantly dressed passers-by move among an abundance of brightly coloured flowers, while the Haussmannian façades and trees structure the perspective.

The wet pavement creates numerous reflections and enhances the effects of light. The rich palette, dominated by yellows, reds, pinks, blues and greens, brings great luminosity and a sense of movement to the scene.

The overall composition offers a warm and colourful evocation of an elegant Paris, in the characteristic Impressionist style of Wilma Lucas.
