Ay-O (靉嘔) - Singing Bird C / 囀り-C

An original 1982 silkscreen by Ay-O (靉嘔), titled “Singing Bird C” / “Saezuri-C” (囀り-C).

The work depicts a highly stylized bird rendered in Ay-O’s characteristic rainbow spectrum, with vivid reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues and purples.

Ay-O is particularly well known for his use of rainbow gradations and bold colour combinations, and this composition is a characteristic example of his distinctive visual language.

The work is hand-signed and dated “ay-o ’82” in pencil at the lower right and individually numbered 276/1000 at the lower left.

The Japanese title “囀り C” is also visible in the lower margin.

Ay-O (靉嘔, born 1931) is an internationally recognized Japanese avant-garde artist closely associated with the Fluxus movement and is especially known for his rainbow-coloured works.

The print is presented in a frame with a light-coloured mat.
