Sutter、born in 1975, is a contemporary artist who draws on formal approaches developed by artists of the 20th century to express his own pictorial research. His work is particularly distinguished by his representations of New York, characterised by vibrant colours, strong compositions and a remarkable sense of movement.

Despite their apparent complexity, Sutter’s paintings are rooted in a representation of contemporary reality. Reds, blues, yellows and other intense colours intertwine and respond to one another in dynamic urban compositions, giving his work a highly recognisable visual identity.

This work, entitled “New York, Times Square”, presents a highly colourful and expressive vision of the famous New York scene. Buildings, vehicles, pedestrians and numerous advertising signs come together in a dense and lively composition, capturing the energy of the city.

Sutter uses a mixed-media technique characteristic of his work. The advertisements, posters and graphic elements visible in the scene are first printed and then adhered to the canvas. The artist subsequently develops his pictorial intervention around these elements, integrating them into the composition and creating an original dialogue between printed images, colour, texture and painterly gesture.

The rich chromatic palette and highly dynamic treatment of the scene reinforce the energy of New York. The work offers a contemporary and particularly expressive interpretation of the urban landscape of New York.
