DESCRIPTION:
Authentic fossil tooth of Carcharocles auriculatus, an impressive large predatory shark from the Late Eocene, originating from Dakhla, Western Sahara, Morocco, and attributed to the Samlat–Aridal geological succession.
This is a particularly attractive and well-preserved specimen, displaying a large triangular crown with clearly developed serrated cutting edges. Of special importance is the preservation of the authentic fossil root, which remains substantially intact and retains the characteristic serrated lateral cusplets (lateral denticles) on both sides of the crown—an important morphological feature associated with C. auriculatus.
The specimen exhibits pleasing natural coloration and good preservation of the enamel and overall morphology, making it an excellent example for both a serious fossil collection and display.
Condition: Very good overall preservation. The tooth has one repaired fracture that has been re-glued and lightly filled for stabilization. Apart from this localized restoration, the specimen retains an excellent degree of original fossil material and a highly representative morphology.
