Explanation of the work:

Metal or steel is one of the hardest and most resilient materials we have. As a master of steel, I am used to feeling its hardness and strength, and when I see that force represented in the essence of metal sculptures, with this new collection I want to do the opposite: something even more complex, which is to endow sensitivity and to deceive the viewer by presenting a sculpture forged in hard and resistant steel that looks like silk, that appears to be a sensitive and elegant piece, simple and delicate, yet visually powerful.

They are pieces of stainless steel finished with reliefs, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. Through them I seek a more relaxed elegance and the desire to create a deception in the viewer’s mind, like a trompe l’oeil.

They are forged pieces crafted with utmost care, in an idyllic environment, in full connection with steel and art. They are born with the sound of each fold, of strength and delicacy, and from there flow the notes of their movements, seemingly creased and open.

I am drawn to artisanal and groundbreaking designs, so with these vertical and wall sculptures I focus on becoming part of a new reality, where I seek color, texture and sinuous forms. Who would say that this is steel? These sculptures, with a magically wrinkled appearance, make me venerate this primitive material, for it makes everything possible, without limits to creation or creativity. Even steel can look as light as silk.

The piece plays with a mirror-like effect that makes light bounce and creates spectacular light and shadow games. Creating a sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art.

José Soler is a Spanish-based sculptor whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Monaco, Italy and France. Through each of his pieces, he strives to bring to light the melody that lives inside each of us. Soler cites the conversion of cold steel into sculpture as his way of connecting with what is invisible to our eyes and what can only be perceived with universal feelings.
