スピネル（マグネシオスピネル）は、鉱物分類の「酸化物と水酸化物」に属する鉱物で、組成式は MgAl2O4 であり、化学的にはマグネシウム-アルミナートである。
スピネルは立方晶系に結晶する。スピネル構造は最も重要かつ一般的な結晶構造タイプのひとつで、これに隣接してさらに30種の既知鉱物が結晶する。そのためスピネルは、国際鉱物学協会（IMA）によって新しく定義された「スピネル超族」の名の由来にもなっている。
