Description from the seller
Fascinating and authentic mantel clock produced by the famous German manufactory Mauthe (F. Mauthe GmbH, Schwenningen) in the latter half of the 1930s. The clock perfectly embodies the Art Déco style of the era, with a walnut case finely shaped into a Napoleon hat and enriched by elegant decorative carvings applied to the sides of the dial. The dial, protected by a convex glass bulging window with a brass front-opening frame, features raised Arabic numerals and finely cut golden hands. On the back, the brass mechanism plate bears a stamped serial number 633186 and the technical inscription “34” (referring to the nominal pendulum length). The movement is equipped with anchor escapement and chime on harmonically tuned bars (metal rods), delivering a deep and melodic toll. The item comes complete with its original metal winding key.
-Producer: Mauthe (Germany)
-Era: Circa 1935 - 1939 (Interwar / Art Déco)
-Materials: Walnut case, brass dial and details, convex glass.
-Mechanism: Manual-wind mechanical with short pendulum and dual winding (time and chime).
-Accessories included: Original winding key.
-Object condition: Wooden case: Vintage aesthetic in excellent condition, with a beautiful natural patina of time and well-defined wood grain. No obvious structural damage. Dial and glass: Brass in excellent condition with minimal oxidation marks consistent with age; glass intact without deep scratches or streaks. Mechanism: Complete with all original components (pendulum, lower adjustment nut, hammers and chimes).
Notes for buyers: As this is an antique mechanical clock that has been stationary for a long time, it may require optimal levelling, a light lubrication, or a small service by an expert to ensure perfect timekeeping after transport.
