機能：有名な投槍（pilum）とは異なり、hastaは短距離での戦闘用の突撃武器として設計されていました。
形状とデザイン：先端は通常葉形で、突撃時の剛性を高める太い中央リブを持っています。考古学的には、このタイプはpilumの細長い柄に比べて、先端が短く幅広い特徴で識別されます。
取り付け：先端の下部には下端座（中空のリング）があり、木の柄に滑らせてネジ止めで固定されていました。
素材：初期の例はブロンズ製のこともありましたが、発見されたローマ時代の多くは手作業で鍛えられた鉄製です。
